Motor suggestions please??
« on: July 05, 2012, 07:57:57 pm »

Hi folks,
I am well on my way with my build of a 52" Vosper RTTL, it is looking good and I will be uploading some photos of it once I can find my camera  >:-o
However I am at the point now where I need to start thinking about buying my motor and RC gear, I have used an old hull for my build which I have had kicking around for a while, it has at some point in the past had a single motor fitted so the motor mount and prop tube etc is all there so I am going to stick with a single motor for this one. The thing is I will need a large powerful motor and I am stuck on what to go for! I have normally used brushed motors in the past but should I venture out of my comfort zone and go for brushless?? as everyone seems to be banging on about brushless recently  :-)
Has anyone any suggestions or advice on a decent motor and suitable speed controller for this? brushed or brushless I am all ears but will need some serious advice if I was to go brushless as I know nothing about them  {:-{

Hi
Don't forget that RTTLs were either twin (Rolls Royce )or triple screw.(Napier)
Such a layout would enable you to use smaller motors.
Suspect this is not what you want to hear but as an ex R.A.F.
mariner I like to see the model as accurate under water as above.
Anyway best of luck with your build.
