Forward only ESC
« on: July 19, 2012, 05:22:44 pm »

Can anyone recommend a Forward only ESC to run a 550 motor in a Piranha for a young lad.
I don't want him sinking it going full astern. I cant put a block on the Tx Stick as it is used for other
models that need to go astern.
On the other hand do the trigger type Tx's just run ahead as that may be a solution.

Is this what you are looking for? Its for aircraft so I assume its forwards only. It has a brake, but that can be disabled.

the stick type tx do have reverse, I know where your coming from about forward only escs where they need the throttle in full reverse to arm like the turnigy range. The tx i use i had to completely dismantle it and drive a screw in the trigger, wasnt ideal.

that jeti one looks pretty good though, ill have to try that one, you can set the throttle range or so the instructions say anyway.

The hobbyking one that barrie has suggested is the turnigy one with a different cloak,

The use of a one way diode etc comes to mind. It allows electricity to flow only one way,so no reverse.Still cant understand why the stick cannot be blocked from going into reverse.John.

Don't know if a diode would have any effect on the ESC don't want any smoke effects.
I can't block the stick from going astern as its a Radiolink Tx and the throttle stick needs to
be waggled ahead and astern on switch on before firing up the Rx.
The easiest way is a car type ESC where the brake can be selected on or off by programming or jumpers
I was just sounding out the experts opinions on a reasonable quality and priced ESC .

A diode would do the job with no ill effects.  Finding a diode that will handle the current is another story.
