As above the merco is knackered so it looks like a new engine. the old engine was a merco 29, from the website below which engine is best reccommended for my Huntsman

If I was in your position and facing the possibility of installing a new motor, I would take advantage of the situation and...

Having confirmed that the original motor wouldn't run reliably, if at all, I really would be inclined to seriously reconsider the option of a no-frills electric set-up.

Whilst I appreciate that replacing the engine may seem like the 'easier' option, especially if you're not too sure about electric set-ups (and you won't be the only one), it would be a more user-friendly option in the long run, and if the model is used infrequently.

Finally, I would clean-up and polish the original Merco, mount it on a stand or in a box frame, and find a space to put it on display.

id be inclined to agree with andy , with fewer ponds/ lakes allowing the use of ic engines these days an electric conversion would be the better route . my own pair of huntsmans are electric and run very well , one is with brused motors while the police version has a pair of brushless motors installed . jon

If you want to run your boat with engine you are very welcome to come along to Stevenage MBC on a Sunday morn 9 to 12. There is always someone here who has an engine or two to sale and help you get it running.

Hi Rusty

I have bought a boat from Ebay which I intend to run under electric power as there is a shortage of waters that allow I.C.near me.

The boat had a very nice Enya 29 engine fitted when I got it.  You are most welcome to it FOC as I am unlikely to use it for anything. Should be a pretty good replacement for the merco.

Send me a P.M with adresses etc

Hi,

I sent Rusty a rather nice Enya 29 from a boat that I bought on Ebay to convert to electric power.  Don't know how he got on with it as I haven't heard from him since sending it.  Hopefully , it should work as a reasonable basis for renovating his boat

Hi,

Yes thankyou again spearfish99, I went down to the local club just before Xmas, I have spoke to a couple of people down there on how to mount it. This is where I am getting a little lost on what to do and how. It's a work in progress situation thanks again

Hi Rusty,

No problem. Looking at your original photo of your old engine, it was mounted to an ali plate but it is not obvious what that was fixed to. There did not look like any substantial bearers to fix it to.

I was trying to remember back to my Huntsman back in the early 70's. It was one of the first of the kits when it came out and I think it had quite large engine bearers built in, but it is so long ago, memories are a little vague!. I am sure that there must be someone at your local club who can give you a steer on this. It is one of the most basic bits of building a power boat so they have all faced it.

Best of luck with your progress

Ian

Hi Russ
Keep plugging away Rusty I'm new to this as well and have also found the other members on here to be really helpful , 1 member was kind enough to send me a couple of servos for free (just need to work out how to fit them),
Keep going mate
