hi Mike, the 12 v @ 2.5 amps is 30 watts, so not so good.  My HK special started at 2.8 amps then the current increased probably not quite primed,  as it was pumping water and steadily increased to just under 4 amps.  There was about 4 -5 feet of tubing total on inlet and outlet, which I suppose would add to the load.  While doing the testing the motor must have run for several minutes and was only warm to the touch.
Has anyone got precise figures for the Hunter unit?

regards Roy

Hi Roy:  I have used the Hunter Systems 6V submersible pump and controller for several months now, and can highly recommend it.  It seems to shift quite a lot of water when activated by the sensor probe, but of course limiting ingress of water should be your first option.  It is amply good enough to vent slower build ups, and give extra time to get your boat towards shore if it does get swamped.

Unfortunately not much spec details on their web site, or in the instruction leaflet.  35 gm, 60 mm high, 30 dia.  Does not seem to get warm in operation.

Roy (& Mike!)

I have Hunter Systems 6-12 Volt in-line version (The left hand one in Mike's picture in Reply #14) plus the controller and, like Bob, can recommend it.

It's in my 1:32 Clyde Puffer (still only half built!). Here's a video of it in situ

I have just taken it out and done a test in the garden:

Using the 6 Volt pack from the model (not sure of the state of charge but reading 6.48 V), it drew 0.86 Amps - this drawing water from about 6" below through a tube about 18" long.

With 12.9 V from a power supply it drew 1.2 Amps.

Not a very comprehensive data sheet but every little helps!

Thanks Mike for the data, I may invest next time I see them.
