Advice on new intended build please
« on: September 17, 2012, 05:13:33 pm »

Hi All,
I found a Kingston river queen hull at the back of my garage that I thought I had sold quite awhile back, and I sort of got the bug again to build it (Don’t we all) Anyway I am looking for advice on boilers and engines. I have been offered a Mac steam three & half inch boiler with a graham, TVR1A engine, gas tank, oil separator ect for £500 roughly of a friend of mine who bought it last year and never did anything with them. Do you think it’s worth buying for this hull? I had thought of buying the 4inch boiler from Mac steam and then looking for an interesting  engine.  I have had the TVR1A engine before and although a great little engine I fancy something different. Anyway hope I have not bored you and any advice greatly accepted

It is probably about 750 quids worth of stuff there, if it is still as new, sounds like a bargain :-)) :-)) :-))

A nice combination of engine and boiler that will power a River Queen with ease. I have a Kingston R Q with the single cylinder version of the Graham engine and it has more than adequate power. Bigger boilers and bigger boats are great but they do mean more ballast and a bigger transport vehicle etc. Why not put this lot together before you start on the bigger one, it sounds like you would have no trouble covering your costs if you decided to sell it later. Cheers, Ian.

Hi
I bought the macsteam boiler 3.5 inch and the pmr research no8 v twin.. would this be too big for the Kingston river queen hull 890cm x 280mm?  Or one more than a mtr. I have the bigger one over a mtr that I could put it in but it is a struggle to get it in and out of my car when I want to sail it. I read a post on here of someone else with the same set up wanting to try put the same plant in a a river queen but I think he said it was only 70mm which I know would deff, be to small.
Thanks in advance.
