New user needs info-plans in dxf format for laser cutting
« on: September 20, 2012, 05:55:17 pm »

Greetings all , nice Forum.
I am a life long  boater and have built a few model boats through the years from kits. ( dumas hot shot, dumas semi v and a dumas  3 foot hydro plane- I believe it was miss america- old school v12 style.)
I now own a laser engraver- cutter ( Full spectrum 40w laser) running retina engrave v4.
I am desperately  looking  for  electronic plans for a simple boat  to test  Vector cutting and have a nice little project  for the winter. I have seen a few plans in PDF format, that I cant do anything with.  I have A DXF viewer , but cant edit, I Know I am at a deficit with the design software.
What I am looking for  is a simple plan in DXF format  or a format that some one else has used  for laser cutting.
I KNOW its long shot , but  please look at the attached picture, ideally Im looking for this style boat. It "was" a new england lobster trawler that  was converted into a tourist water taxi  here in my local area. I simply love the lines  and am looking  for something similar.
I'm not really concerned with super detail, rather im just looking for similar lines  to vector cut the  internals ( balsa-lightply etc) and looking to  hand fit plank on frame/stringer construction. I'm not really concerned  with super detailed  boat. just nice lines. boat size should be  between  18 and 24 inches long  when done.
Thank you  all for your consideration.

Joe

Hi JoeC.

Welcome to Mayhem. I do hope the members may be able to help you.  It does look as if, maybe, that you might be able to help us in our hobby.    :}

If you could put your location in your profile then it would be a great help.

Cheers

Hi Joe, Well I thought 'New England Lobster Trawler...' and the Stars & Stripes flapping in the breeze were a dead giveaway to your location  :-))

For a start, there are a couple of plans in DXF format at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.mcmanus/plans.htm  although there are not images of finished models, so you will have to download them to see what they are.

Any of the boat plans on this site are available in .DXF format if you would like them. They are simple boats, designed in balsa to lock together easily.  Just send me a PM and I'll email them to you...   http://modelboats.hobby-site.com/
