Greetings all, just thought I should report in on the latest new bit of kit I have tried. I ordered some steam regulators from 21st Century Steam after seeing them reviewed in Model Boats a few months ago and tried the first of them out on Sunday. The engine I was running was a 16mm x 16mm (5/8" x 5/8") double acting slide valve twin so it is a reasonable size. It uses 3/16 pipework so I had to step the feed pipe down to the regulator which at present only comes with fittings to suit 1/8" or 5/32" tube although Chris from 21st Century tells me they will have a 3/16" pipe one coming. I was only using 35 to 40 psi and even so the regulator gave a very good range of speed control. It is a positive stop 1/4 turn valve so was very easy to set up and connect the servo to and it went from flat out to a very slow tickover within the travel of a standard servo. I think it would probably be possible to set it so the engine came to a stop with a little bit of fiddling. The regulator is a round unit about 1" in diameter so it is a little bigger than some of the valves I have used in the past but it was not really a problem to find room for it and it definitely gave better control than the smaller units. All in all happy to reccomend it to the steam gang. Cheers, Ian.
