scam boat for sale on a boat club website!
« on: November 11, 2012, 07:52:18 pm »

well this is interesting, and a "heads up" for anyone considering buying this boat, whilst killing some time last night, looking at some  model boat club websites, I was amazed to see this advert,

http://www.hoylakemodelboatclub.co.uk/136277624

I can give some extra details, the boat now has nice scale figures, it has a working smoke unit, and also has a sound unit that can play tracks from the Jaws film.

How do I know all this, well its  my boat  >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( , and has been for the last 5 years, its safely tucked up in my workshop, and is not for sale, so if any members of this club, or indeed the "seller" could perhaps explain how its for sale, I would be very interested!  >:-o The seller was asked if the sale was for the boat in the picture, and he said yes it was, I wonder what you would get for the selling price of £280? , because its definitly not that boat, cant wait for an explanation!

Devils Advocate
Seems strange that the club sale site gives a First name and Surname as well as Mobile and Land line number. Not the usual activities of a scam

yep def same boat,  look close, I fitted the very small servo horn to the rear on the side of the hull, for a time it was used to tow a shark, the barrel, sometimes I forget to put it were it should go, the superstructure comes off in one piece, and the barrel cage is attached to that, one barrel is attached via cord to Quints shark gun, so I have to take it out of the barrel cage when  taking off the superstructure, bet the seller does not know all of that info, well he wouldnt would he! he does not have the boat :}

I am pleased to say, that I have been contacted by a member of the club, and the wrong photo has been used, I fully trust the person who has mailed me, however the seller, well I believe he might have a SIMILAR boat for sale, and might have just thought give it a go, the annoying thing is we in the modelling world deal a lot on trust, what would have happened if one of you had bid via that sales forum, or as mentioned earlier ebay, travelled a fair distance, and found it was of inferior quality and obviously not the boat in the photo?, he did state it was THE boat in the picture >:-o

misrepresentation springs to mind? anyway looks like the culprit individual has been caught out! :-)) , I will tell the rottweillers to stand down tonight!

I do the same! A dangerous habit :}  thats how I end up with too many projects, they always seem to end up being  mysteriously bought like I have another personality that bids withouit me knowing!!

For reference, if this is the eBay model that has been referred to a couple of times eBay Model it seems only right to point out for all concerned, that it is a different model to the boat that is the original subject of this thread.

As both are representations of 'Orca' from the Jaws movie, it would be reasonable to expect them to look similar to one another, however, although I don't recognise the basis of the version owned by red181 (Traplet plan maybe?), I do recognise the ebay model as I had one. It's a Scoonie Hobbies Shark Boat originally manufactured by Bin Bag Models, Leicester, if I remember correctly.

"The page on the website has this on it now:
Apologies to Paul from Max (webmaster) for displaying wrong photo.

Sounds to me like an innocent mistake by a less competent webmaster than your good self, (grovel). I think the original post was/is making the worst possible case of it."

OK, can the Lynch mob take down the noose now please.
