13-03 - R & J Welburn - Exmouth
13-04 - Unnamed - Relief
13-05 - Patsy Knight - Lowestoft
13-06 - Unnamed - Hoylake
13-07 - Frederick William Paxton - Scarborough
13-08 - Unnamed - Selsey
13-09 - Unnamed - St. Ives
13-10 - Unnamed - Ilfracombe

13-11 to 13-16 are allocated to: Lough Swilly, Montrose, Relief, Llandudno, Swanage and Skegness, but the allocation order has not been confirmed.

Still no firm date as to when plans will be released, except that it will be when the design is finalised. But it's getting closer  :-))

There will be some unhappy faces tonight; Hoylake was expecting to be in the first three and Llandudno was also expected to be an early Shannon station.

As far as I know the Dungeness boat has been paid for for a good few years, which is why they get the first production boat.

Just had a thought - of the East Kent ALB stations, Ramsgate has 14-02 and Dungeness, the next ALB station down, will have 13-02.

Fleetwood announced the other day that they will be receiving their Shannon in 2015 which will replace the aging but beautiful Tyne that we have had since 1989.................so looking forward to that day.

By the way 13-07 will be named Frederick William Plaxton,    not Paxton (spelling mistake) as shown in the new 2013 L.B.E.S. handbook.
The new lifeboat has been paid for by a legacy from the estate of Frederic William Plaxton, former chairman of the Scarborough based coach building firm of Plaxtons.

Can't find anyone to give an answer on this one but how come the number '13' is being designated. I thought 13 was unlucky.

Fingers crossed we will be in line at some stage for a Shannon at Newcastle to replace our Mersey. Mind you, it will probably be a few years yet.

The explanation I was given that as 12 (Mersey) and 14 (Trent) were already being used, and the Shannon came into the 13 metre measurement,it was decided to use it(13) as the first number.

Hi Mick F

Yes, the first number denotes the length of the boat and the second number denotes the build number.  I know the shannon is a metre longer (13 Metre) than the Mersey (12 Metre) but I was curious as to why the chose to use 13 was given that 13 is usually designated as 'Unlucky'

Will facebook a colleague in the RNLI who is working on the new Supacat tractor unit to see if he knows.

I think it may be that in this modern age the superstition surrounding numbers will be passed over. Although you have to pity the station that gets 13-13.

Remember that Oakley 37-13 never had her number painted due to superstition, so 13-13 may not end up with a number.

All life boat numbers have a meaning
first number represents the lenght of the lifeboat ie
Tamar 16 metres
Trent 14 meters
Severn 17 metrs
second number is the number of its class ie shoreham Harbour@s Tamar 16 - 15
If its an older boat ie A Tyne it will have 47 which represnts feet for all you old persons

Whadayamean Old persons  <*< >:-o I've still two feet {-)

A Tynes not old. Maybe slow. Heard one in Poole at training college. Looked around expecting to see something spectacular. A comment was made that it had more revs than movement  {-) The burble sounded nice though.

Depends on which tyne it is and the engines fitted...

I Live about 2 miles from Lowestoft boathouse, I can hear the tyne fire up in the night when they go out and often for some time whilst its out!!! Its very very noisy and not really a pleasant noise either.

The sound of a Tyne lifeboat's engines, especially the  General Motors 6V 92 TA two stroke is a sound that I could quite happily bottle and take with me to the afterlife.....it has to be one of the most beautiful sounding sweet set of engines ever to grace this earth O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

there used to be a photo of a yacht with a tow line from the bow to the stern of the William Street ( Fleetwood's Tyne) and the owners of the boat had written on the photo something like..........."Thanks, that boat was the sweetest thing we ever heard coming through the fog.....we'll never forget it"

Say's it all to me.
