Wicks for methylated 3 burner
« on: December 04, 2012, 09:40:56 pm »

I have a modeen burner but am after some replacement wicks, I can find on ebay some 4mm thick stuff but I find that seems to suck up the methys like a flame thrower,
Each burner is 10mm wide, the current wicks I have are about an inch long 2mm ish thick, tend to use about 6 wrapping them together, would say they are cotton. These work really well giving a nice steady burn..
I have searced the www but not seen anything like them, and the packet I have gives no details.
so any info ould be helpful

The trade name for paraffin stoves used to be "Alladin" - I've not tried it but googling "alladin wicks" might turn up something. Failing that you might need something from a "hurricane" lamp.

I too have a Modeen burner and the same problem with wicks. Try the wicks that are used in garden lamps, I have used them this summer, they work Ok but do char quite quickly so need replacing almost every outing to the lake, they are cheap. I am in Austria but these products are available everywhere I should think, in any garden centre or DIY store. What boat are you using the burner in?

Cheers, Terry

Will send him an email, looked at the site and he does sell  3 burner types similar to mine.
