Seabex speed controllers
« on: December 16, 2012, 09:21:40 am »

Hello All

I'm just about to resurrect my old seabex.... The original speed controllers ( Electronize ) are still in place and no doubt working, but there are four of them and they take up a lot of room and the wiring looks like the inside of a BT exchange....
I'm looking to replace with a couple of more up to date units, each powering two motors ( speed 600s ) instead of one for each motor as currently set up...
I've also purchased a planet T 5 radio to use so need to think about how best to utilise the channels available...
I'm not up to speed ( sorry ) with the electronics side of things and would appreciate any advice...

Mtroniks are always worth considering, especially when size is a consideration  - http://www.mtroniks.net/

Thank You...

Any idea what rating I'm looking at? Like I say I'm not really very good with the electronic side of things...also do I need any additional stuff to go with them? Sorry for all the questions but I've been out of the hobb for a few years and everything seems to have moved on more than I have...

Thanks again

If you have a Planet T5 already, then careful with using Mtronics ESCs.  The do require some messing to centre the stick since the failsafe on T5 rx's were changed for flight reasons.  There was a thread on here somewhere a while ago about this issue.  It did cause me some problems one of which I have never fully overcome, and I still cant centre the throttle properly with one of my Mtronics Viper ESC so I make sure that I use Action now, but its all a matter of personal choice.

For 2 motors each?
The real question is what rating the original ESCs are.  Double that, or double the original and next rating above, should be OK.

Sold my Li150 last year a few years after rebuilding her from scratch.  Broke my heart, especially after selling my T5 the year before.  But a new GP150 frame and engine is on its way. Trouble is the other half doesnt know its on its way so it wont be a happy xmas in our house.

I've had scoots all my adult life until redundancy 2 years back, first thing to go is the toys!!  I've always had a Lambretta in the garage, but at heart I'm a Vespa person....still waiting for that GS tho....maybe when the sun comes out I'll buy another....good luck with the other half at Christmas....perfume or gold normally does it in my house...
