THINGS NOT TO DO WHEN BUILDING A MODEL
« on: January 13, 2013, 02:09:16 am »

IS there a sticky post some where with the things not to do ?
it would BE handy
ONE thing is not to leave the heat lamps on to long on your model or it dries out big time  before the bog dries and the cy glue comes unstuck
and leaves 1/8 wide  cracks in the planking  i now have it  covered with a wet towel to try to get some moisture back in to the timber DAM  >>:-(

I think there is a tongue in cheek version in humour, going back 3-4 years.

Humorous
Answer the phone when using CA glue.

Real world.
Using CA glue when planking larger areas of planking in one shot. The resultant shrinkage can cause the plywood substrate to cup, in the opposite direction to what you might want on a cambered deck. (done that).

Soldering a brass fitting and then picking it up before it has cooled off.  :}
My Dad is a big fan of this!!! You should see his fingers!!!

I think CA glue has to be the number one cause of many an incident, I have been stuck to a wooden hull too many times ! {-)

And soldering a brass fitting that has already got some superglue on!!  NOT RECOMMENDED unless wearing a respirator!

And spray painting in the kitchen thinking you can localise any overspray by using sheildings without hitting the kitchen wall.  Very wife unfriendly idea.

Don't believe everything that a "plan" tells you without doing some background checks.

Not checking the label on your tin of varnish before spraying and then wondering why it smelled 'different'. I still have painful memories of spraying acrylic varnish on enamel paint, which gave me a whole load more work to do on HMS Amethyst!  >:-o

Never never hold something and superglue it over your lap. Spent 3 hours in the bath the othernight and ruined a good pair of trousers and undies! Nuff said!!!!

Never try to open a stuck bottle of superglue with your teeth

:embarrassed:  don't ask how I know this one  :embarrassed:

Also when spraying ensure the nozzle is pointing in the correct direction ie away from ones face

:embarrassed:  again don't ask how I know this one  :embarrassed:

Never have a building board balanced where a cat can upset it.
Even slung 30Ft., cats do land on four feet.

When building a kit do not trust the translation of measurements from Metric to Imperial, always check twice! ( Graupner used to be really bad with this!!) :((

if you drop a scalpel and it brushes your leg on the way down, check your leg, dont go to move an hour later to find you have a shoe full of blood from the slice the scalpel made down your leg.

They are a great little tool.  Unfortunately the handle does not seem  'man enough'  to be gripped securely.

Is there any adaption to make it more  gripable ?
