First of MANY questions !

So who can tell me the difference between a BOAT and a SHIP ??
It may be useful to me as this is a model boat forum.

I've heard two answers to that;
 
1) A ship can carry a boat but a boat can't carry a ship!
 
2) In a turn, a ship leans outward and a boat leans inward!
 
I don't know if these are right but they are certainly short answers.

In our UK navy it's either H M S or small craft - it's probably where the line could be drawn. Small craft were mtb/mgb etc and titled boats. Navy classification is in the official name or type description. It's as clear as mud.

Remember that subs are always boats no matter what size they are.
They cannot carry ships!  {-)

Subs are not always boats - not when you get one before payday

Reminds me of - Liverpool docker nicknamed the Destroyer - He was always looking for a sub  {-)

City gent walking down the Dock rd asks a docker where the urinal is? "Dunno lad, how many funnels has she got?  {-)

True - I was sat in a Dock rd cafe when an old tramp came in and got a bowl of oxtail soup - took his false teeth out and washed them in the soup before eating it  O0

Docker's nicknames were always a source of amusement.  My own favourite was "The Lazy Lawyer"  who was always asleep on a case!
