Floating docksides
« on: February 03, 2013, 09:40:45 pm »

Hi everyone, I want to make a floating quayside/dockside for my boat. Is it as simple as putting a suitable piece of wood on top of some polystyrene or are there better methods.
Normally I would ask someone at a model boat lake who has one but I can only sail my boat on a very adhoc basis and when I do it's rarely on the normal Sunday or Wed afternoon meets.
Ta, Chris

If you just want somthing to practice docking then some plastic water pipe and bends sealed at the ends will do the job.

We built a complete harbour at Glasgow Richmond M.B.C. by making piers from old plywood...
the bottom box floats on the pond and the lid goes on to form the top of the dock...
I hope this picture shows you how...

Thanks to you both. I'll have a bash at constructing one in plywood and polystyrene. When it's done I'll post some photos.

Hi Adam, it's for use at the lakeside or pondside but particularly those that have unforgiving concrete sides like the one at New Brighton on the Wirral.
