Model boat shows in Aberdeenshire/Scotland
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:53:50 am »

Is there anyone out there that knows of any model shows in Scotland .I know things are dear and travel costs are high and it might not be cost effective for a show  but all them seem to be down in England. The internet is a good place to buy as we all know, going to a show and hands on is sometimes better and it is a good day out . A lot of clubs have open days and these are good and everyone is made welcome but I think a lot of model boat builders would like a show up in Scotland once in a while.

There was a show in  Duthie park about 2.5 years ago but I'm not sure if it was ever to be a yearly event.

ps I used to live out your way David.  Not quite as far into the mountains as Strathdon though.  Where do you normally sail?

I have sailed on Loch of Skene a few times.  Its quite shallow in places and my boat suffered some damage tothe prop shaft when it struck a submerged rock!

Ill give summerlea a try this year.

i would have thought Scotland should be able to throw a couple of big parties like they do in England.

It just seems disappointing there isnt much going on....slap me sideways if im missing a decent event...i was at blackpool this year, it was interesting and a decent place and a decent show...

Scotland could easily do a number of these.....is the problem vendors, do they not like to travel north ?

Is it nobody has bothered to organise a combined event....is there petty rivalries ?....our club was invited last year to be part of the falkirk wheel celebrations, i know they were planning a great deal of other clubs to be involved.....it fell through sadly...

There is a canal in Strathdon  :o  ?     There used to be some sailing events over on the old swimming pool in the  Tarlair  direction, dont know about shows except the Elgin one.   The Falkirk Wheel could be a great central venue and showcase to the public for model boating. If you fancy coming over the Lecht to Strathspey we can show you plenty of lochs with sandy beaches and one even has a bar and restuarant,(Loch Insh)

I have said that the Falkirk wheel could be a outstanding venue for a show,
But unfortunately the usual scoffers and wasters all poo-poo it  >>:-(

If you are interested in summerlee John macalister ( geids on here) is the organiser for this
And he could give you more info :-)) :-))

The 2012 summerlee show was attended by Scoonies, Clyde Model Boats and Orion Mouldings as well as a fair number of club and individual displays.
Not bad for a fledgling event, it would be nice if other vendors could attend in the future as this could be the begining of a major event in Scotland :-))
I think the major problem is someone committing the time and effort into organising large events in Scotland.
