Trying to get 2 controllers to work with RC
« on: May 20, 2007, 03:33:28 pm »

I have a Robbe-Futaba F14 with Twin stick, 2 MCD ULTRA MINiCON controllers.
Each motor is connected to a 6 volt battery.
I can get only one of the motors to work at a time, if I go to channel 3 on the receiver then the right hand stick works the right hand motor.  If  I go to channel 4 then the left hand side of the stick works the right hand side motor.  But I cant get them to work together.

My problem would have to be in the RC or the dip switches on the controller

Hi,
I might be telling you what you have done but this is what I would do
1st check all battery voltages, especially tx and rx
2nd plug a servo into all the channels to check their operation
3rd check the above with a spare rx incase the reciever has had it

If the above checks out ok
Then

has the speed controls got bec output on both, you will only need one supply

after that I am stumped but I am sure others will have other ideas

good luck

Thanks ro880
I have tried servos in all channels and they seem OK.
What do you mena by BEC output?  I am a novice when it comes to electrics

Most present day electronic speed controllers have a Battery Eliminator Circuit.  This allows the receiver and servos to draw power at a regulated voltage from the main battery, saving having to remember to charge an extra battery.  One BEC is enough.  Although they are regulated, this is within limits, which means that they usually regulate at different voltages.  Two trying to regulate the same supply at different voltages can lead to problems, so it is common practice to disable all but one of the BECs by disconnecting all but one of the (normally) red wires from the ESCs.  The other ESCs, having their own BEC each, will supply power to their own internal control circuitry.
The BEC relies on there being enough voltage from the main battery to regulate down to the nomial 5 volts that the receiver etc requires, typically at least 2 volts.

Hi,
just re-read the post.
If you want both speed controls on the same channel (stick) then you will need a "y"
lead between the reciever and the esc's so that each esc has the same sigal from the reciever.

If I have read this correct then he HAS a twin stick on the left of his controller which should occupy TWO channels ie: 1 & 3  or 2 & 4 sort of thing but he is having problems with the set up which I am not sure if there is any mixcing gone on between the channels

Just glad I went for the FX 18 and not the F14 twin stick system like I was going to.

Sorry just cant help much with your problem.

Try this - firstly ensure that you have disconnected the red wire on one of the plugs from the controllers as Malcolm said.  Then take off the back of the F14 transmitter.  Follow the wires from the twin sticks to the plugs on the connection tray at the upper left and note which numbers they are plugged into.  (On mine they are connected to number 3 and 4.)

Now check that the plugs from the controllers are plugged into the same number channels on your receiver ( e.g 3 and 4).

Hope that this will sort it.
