Hi guys,
I'm new on here so please forgive me if I break the inhouse conventions/rules.

My problem.
It's over 40years since I built a model boat. - I got lured to the dark side (aircraft).
I have glaucoma/AMD and I'm now on daily eye drops.
My sight is only just good enough to drive (yes I have told DVLA).  It seems likely that I will have to give up model flying & driving within the next few years. <:(

Soooo I'm not building any more aircraft but I want to keep building so I'm looking for a boat to build - probably starting next Winter.  Since it's a long time since I've built a boat I was going to start with something small and relatively simple before scratch building a design of my own.

To this end I have been going through bits saved from old magazines.  I came across a rowing boat complete with oarsman and mechanism in the January and February 1971 Model Boats. (Radio-Active by E.F. Amiss)
January was the boat and February was the mechanism but although the parts drawings are there, it appears that there is no drawing of the mechanism to show how it goes together.
I'm reasonably sure I haven't lost any of the article but the drawing may have been on a facing page that I didn't cut out or been included in a later issue.

So the question is, does anybody have 'Model Boats' mags from 1971 and can they confirm whether the assembly drawing for the mechanism was ever published?

Many thanks for any help

There are a couple of members on here that have substantial archives of MB magazines.  I have a small selection and will check mine, tho I quite sure I don't have that particular issue.

Hi NNF, I have the 2 magazines in front of me.  Part 2 in the Feb edition seems to be the mechanism description on 3 pages 54, 55, 56.
Seems to need workshop equipment to construct it.

There have been other mechanisms since in subsequent issues of model Boat Marine modelling magazines.  If anyone knows when I have most of the magazines, all newly filed in order from October 1952, (a few missing in the 50's!)

Hope this helps,
Roy

Thanks for that.  Those are the three pages that I have.  Perhaps it's just me being dense but there are no drawings on Page 54, Page 55 has drawings of the oars, rowlocks and the base for the mechanism and page 56 has drawings of various other parts but there doesn't seem to be a drawing of the assembly to show how it goes together.  It also appears tat not all the parts are shown. The first line on page 55 says (referring to the motor mount plate) "Drill 6B.A. clearance where where shown....."  Except that it doesn't seem to be shown anywhere. {:-{ .

I wondered if there was any corrections in later months mags???

TIA

Sorry - should have said - I have that cover too.  Unfortunately the picture is too small and low resolution to see what it's all about {:-{ .

Anyway - many thanks for looking.  It's not wildly important - I just fancied trying something a bit different.  If I can't work it out, then it will just have to be some else.

If it is any consolation I had both issues and could not figure out how it was to go together, plus all the nuts and bolts were BA which are nonexistent over here. I had written to the magazine but as usual back then they did not reply.
Regards,
Gerald.

OH so not just me then.   %% :-)

BA no problem here (UK) but I would probably convert to metric these days.

Cheers
