Another newbie checking in..
« on: March 01, 2013, 06:12:26 pm »

Just saying hi to you all having just joined your forum.

The name is Craig and I have always had an interest in modelling of all sorts from static plastic models to radio controlled models. I've had plenty of RC cars in the past, tried aircraft (crashed them all really fast!) but the one I got the most pleasure from building was my boat so really keen to get back into marine modelling.

The boat or ship I built was a Model Slipway kit of the Envoy class tug. I saw this kit way back when they first released it at the Warwick boat show and I think I was one of the first customers for this model but the kit was fantastic and built into a great model with some scratch building and added detail. I have only sailed this model once though on a swimming pool so keen to get it back in the water again.

Last weekend I went to Brighton for the Modelworld show and was seduced by the RNLI display of lifeboat models and now I really want a Speedline models kit of the Severn class lifeboat in 1:12th scale of course.  :-)

I have just bought my first house which is conveniently located just around the corner from a nice lake in Southwater where a club called the Southwater Dabblers sail so plan to go there soon and see what is on the water.

I'll let you know how the sailing of the Envoy goes and if I manage to get my hands on a lifeboat kit. I'm sure I'll be back with some silly questions soon.

Hopefully some pictures of the Envoy attached.

Cheers

Craig.

Welcome aboard Craig, that is a very nicely built model you have there. Speedline Severn's do make up into a nice model but are very expensive I've spent around twice the cost of the kit and I've only just got started!

Welcome to Mayhem, Craig. I hope you enjoy your time with us.

What a smashing job you've made of the 'Envoy'. A real pleasure to see such workmanship.   :-))

Cheers

Thanks chaps and thanks for the kind words.

Interested to hear any thoughts you have on the Speedline models. I have noticed the not so cheap price and understand batteries, motors, speed controllers, Radio gear Etc needs to be added but anything else missing from the kit?

Visited my parents today where the Envoy was built and has been stored for the last 5 years and decided to bring it home with me. With a good clean and a couple of small repairs she looks great again and now I know it fits in my little car I may well be at the lake soon. Surprised the batteries lasted too, still seem to be well charged!

Thinking of adding a smoke generator as it's an electric powered boat and maybe a sound module from model sounds. Any thoughts on either, Gimmick  waste of time, Pain to use?

Cheers

Craig.

P.S. is the need to answer questions and decipher blurry images always needed when posting a reply on the forum or will it stop after a while?
