 %% 1:32 scale Type45 @ 4.8 metres long
You can see it along way away on a big lake.
Also you don't need to wear your glasses.

I like mine to be 40 inches to 60 inches as I think they look more realistic on the water. A boat @ 18 inches looks like a toy to me. I think some models need the size to make a presence when sailing, there is good information on this thread for the kit builders. Mick B.

All my trawlers are built at 1/32 scale, from my present build of a drifter at 35 inches, up to my largest build of the trawler kingston diamond at 72 inches. All my white metal moulds are 1/32 so i haven,t much choice. transport is a bit of a problem at times because i drive a peugeot 107. I told the wife that i need an estate car, she suggested i build smaller boats, never mind eh!  Rod {-) {-)

So a fair few prioritise scale over length.

I dont know about anybody else, i like to be able to throw mine in the water and play with them....there are some real masterpieces being constructed that are in the 1: 75 , 1: 96 etc (small and fiddly)
Im not sure i would feel comfortable throwing such works into the water and playing with them..
larger scales are more robust and the owner would have less fear id imagine  O0
