Light Fleet Carrier
« on: March 05, 2013, 02:14:03 pm »

:-) The article in the April issue of model Boats in respect of Glynn Guest's Model  indicate the the aircraft at 1:144 scale are supplied under a trade name "MiniWing Series and whilst there is a webb site it does not give any infor on where these kits can be purchased.

Anyone with the information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Alas, this the information in this article is incorrect!
The aircraft came from "HobbyLink Japan" and were part of the "F-toys Wing Kit Collection 6".  These are suppiled in boxes of ten mixed kits, Collection 6 contained Hawker Sea Fury, Vought Corsairs and Douglas Skyraiders in a variety of markings.  I had to buy three boxes in the hope of ending up with ten Sea Fury's and ended up with eleven.  Still needed to add three Corsairs to fill up the flight deck.
This might seem extravagant but was a darn sight cheaper than the kits mentioned in the article and I have 17 planes left over for another carrier.
Moral; don't believe anything written about a model other than by the builder, even then be careful!

I have to say I wondered when I saw the prices of the Miniwings kits.

I don't know if they were ever embarked on Illustrious, but Skyraiders were used by the Fleet Air Arm in the AEW role. Apparently the radar pods were then transferred to Gannets, and finally to Shackletons!
