« on: March 12, 2013, 06:26:17 pm »

Hi Gents,
I have searched and read  the info in paint but am still confused as to which brown shade to use on my boats  and tugs yes  some will say it depend on which tug/boat your making at the time but would like to know what all of you use. as in shade name, maker, sheen, number. any info would be a great help. so please gents tell me which brow you use.
                      Regards Howard.

Woodwork - I used Burma Teak woodstain. For the superstucture I used a 'match pot' from the local DIY store, then over painted with varnish to stop it washing off. At £3.50 for 250ml can't go wrong really, as they will mix any colour off the paint charts.

Match pots I use are all Dulux. Brown, cream, marine grey - easier to do large areas all one colour too, as I've heard some Humbrol paints can vary slightly from tin to tin, so large areas can be 'blotchy' if you're not careful

Hi, Go to your local decorators shop & get a paint colour chart, there are umpteen browns that you can choose from & the gloss paint you can buy is excellent. Possibly cheaper as well.

And since when did you use Dulux Gloss on any of your models? Or is this thread just wearing you down. Bryan.

Taster pots I get are water based Matt emulsion - hence the need for a varnish over, but available in all Dulux colours

Thanks again Chris, but I only build in plastic card so think emulsion may find in hard to stick to but will look and see if thay,ll mix a small tin of satin oil base paint I understand we all may have our own  favorite colour but was looking to see if some come up more then others. Again thank you for all the replys.

Not an expert on paint, but would have thought it would be ok over a suitable primer....
