Unusual Project
« on: March 18, 2013, 10:03:06 am »

%% I was thinking about an unusual project, looking at a 2 litre plastic bottle floating on the Thames at Wandsworth bridge yesterday afternoon.I could fit one with a radio, hardware and rudder (it would have to be the dark brown type),I could take it down the lake and have
a bit of fun with people thinking what it is just some rubbish on the lake but with a mind of its own.The only trouble is I have too many
builds and not enough time, still someday I might try it(it might be worth a laugh),happy boating ,Ray. >>:-( >>:-(

Nice idea Ray

I guess you could split the model down the centre for fitting all the gear inside and charging the batteries. Screwing the lid back on would hold the top end together.
Heard a story the other day from someone who had a radio controlled swan and people on the bank used to throw bread to it! :D

Much more eco friendly for smoothing troubled waters than oil?   :embarrassed:

March 1982 Model Boats Magazine, I think. RC Coke bottle, RC North Sea Emergency Life Boat off an oil rig and USS Long Beach build. I remember it well, my first issue ever.

Many years ago I used to be a regular visitor to the London model engineers show when it used to cover all aspects of modeling, RC Cars, boats, planes, static models, live steam Etc...

I always remember there being an electric iron on the water but I'm sure it wasn't a standard iron, I think it was an oversize plastic moulding like you might expect to find in a shop window advertising.
Among all the perfectly finished scale boats at the show it was the iron that always made me smile.  :-)

i remember some 25 years ago as a younger modeller seeing some rc 'drift wood' at our lake, - it was  moulded/ adapted from the simulated wood off a domestic ' front room electric fire'  - remember those that were all the rage then with the  aluminmum fan that used to roate over a red lamp to simulate the flicker ???

the ' wood moulding'  was cloaked around a simple tub afair of a boat and the model just chugged around slowly......

odd subject for a model..................... but whatever makes you happy !!!

Malcolm Newbold from the now defunct New Brighton club did a Coke bottle about 30 years ago. He won 1st prize with it at the Model Convention at Ellesmere Port. he still uses it now on a regular basis.

A lad made a RC log that he used to slowly drift towards people sitting by the bank-once close it used to talk to them, say hello etc. The folk looked so confused  :}

A guy down here in Hobart had a wicker picnic basket that would float up to you, then the flap would lift up and a small stuffed animal would pop up and squirt water, still not sure why

Hi Sparkey,

I'm curious to know what machine you are using to post your messages with.  I was wondering what causes the            remakes at the end of them. ?
