Real time video of what's occurring inside of the boat.
« on: March 23, 2013, 01:26:08 pm »

I'm posting here to get the widest knowledge band. I was looking at a recent post showing a video taken on a speedboat on a loch. Next I read on another post about remote data logging via Eagle Tree data logging kit. It's very interesting but feared brain about to trip on overload! I'm not planning on making any more models but am interested in improving my steam launch. When steaming I am always worried about boiler level. Boiler pressure is not really an issue but it would be nice to be aware of it. This data logging kit appears to be able to transmit back to shore, temps(proportional to pressure), rpm, Rx battery voltage and current and many other parameters including real time video. Nice. Not cheap but nice. So I got to thinking, I'm not interested in rpm cos I can observe the boats wake and Tx stick position. I'm not interested in pressure cos if the whistle works its ok and if it just bubbles I slow the boat down until safety lifts. I'm mostly interested in the sight glass. I've made it so the sight glass is always readable(no bubbles or condensation). At present I do a "fly by" regularly so I can look at the glass as she goes past to reassure me. The simplest solution would be a small video camera viewing the glass and pressure gauge transmitted back to shore and viewable on say my iPhone. I'm not interested in level probes or optical systems that have been around for ages. Seeing is believing.  Anyone got any ideas?
Jerry.

there are systems on the market for this, a friend has a drone helicopter that uses a hero camera, this transmits data back to a screen. I am sure there are some that connect to your phone by wifi or bluetooth, which would have a range of 30m or so.

Thanks Grendal. Just found the Smart i camera £80 plus £6 for iPhone app. Will try one at napkins as reviews doubtful but if it works it would be just the job.
