Tamiya 1/350 Yamato conversion
« on: March 23, 2013, 11:05:44 pm »

Hi guys,
I have just recently ordered the Yamato kit online does anyone know how i would convert it to rc? Im thinking of just sealing the inside hull with resin and somehow making the superstructure able to be lifted up to get inside? Any ideas would be appreciated! Mark

  Hi mark.
wondered why you would need to resin the inside of the hull as I remember it as a one piece job but my build was 30years ago and as you know kits change.  Having seen this build on the tube seems a lot of the main parts are now screwed together including the hull.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN8xkJmq4hc

The only places for resin inside a styrene hull are around the propshafts to fix and seal them, and around the rudder tubes.
Any superstructure that lifts off is best done by sitting it over a coaming so that water washing over the deck has a chance of running off the outside before it run down the inside.  In any sort of wave pattern, although it seems to be OK going forward, do not try reverse at anything more than a crawl.  I've seen a couple act as water scoops.

In the winter 2009 there was a conversion of Italeri's Schnellboot that hull is in 2 halves it was just glued together he used Revell contacta professional glue and then ran Fish tank sealant on the inside of the keel join this is a 40'' hull

Is it the old model by Tamiya or the new mould with the updated details?
Have you checked out the Deans Marine new range of mini gear which was developed for the Trumpeter 1/200 Bismarck and Arizona kits, and the Airfix and Revell 1/72 launches and boats?
I'm sure that the 1/200 scale gear would fit, especially in that vast hull!  :-))
Good luck.
