Hi Folks,
 
The time has finally come, I've got My Hull, Plans and Photo's (massive thanks to Tyne Models and Chipchase for all the help).
 Got a pair of Schottels (again with thanks to those who have given advice here) and a load of timber.
 
Ok, so what I need (advice welcomed as always):
 
- Bow thruster (what do you suggest?)
- Motors (Going with Graupner 900's) and couplings
- Working winch
- Plenty of Plasticard for the Superstructure!
 
And a lot of patience!! 
 
 I've taken some photo's of the new hull and i'll start posting photo's as I go along the build.    and so it begins!

Adam, if you've got schottels and you know how to use them, you don't really need a bow thruster. Very few ASD tugs also have a thruster. The problems I foresee in an ASD model are that a real ASD unit can rotate 360° and although it is feasible to achieve this on a model, in order to be able to drive the tug you need some way of knowing which way they are pointing. Most descriptions of model "schottel" operation suggest a limit of 180° rotation. At first sight this is restrictive until you realise that it is possible to run the prop in reverse ( a feature which to my knowledge is only available astern to 30% power on true Schottels). On Aquamasters and Niigatas the prop only turns in one direction.  Having the ability to reverse the prop on a model ASD unit and rotation of the unit through 180° effectively gives 360° rotation. It would be very tricky to drive though but possible.

 Thanks for that. I know that with Schottel's you have very good maneuverability, however the "real" tug has a Bow thruster, so I do want to try and replicate this, even if I do hardly ever use it.
 Don't get me wrong, I'm sure i'll more than likely hardly use it, even when towing but it's nice to think if I need it, it's there to use..if you get me?
 
 I'm just a little torn between using a "market" thruster or building my own.

Ok mate, all understood. In that case I used a Graupner b/t in an Aziz. Worked well. Only difficulty was that it was 7.2volts and thus required a separate battery as rest of boat was 12volts. I used a 10A Mtronics marine ESC. Also good.

Same as what I used in my Aziz (long since gone) - but I actually found it useful running the B/T from a seperate source. That's just personal preference though I guess

pleased to hear all the parts have now arrived , will be watching with great interest. lets have lots of pictures of the build , hope to see her towing at balnemoor before the season end.

she is actually fitted with  2 x Rolls Royce Aquamasters variable pitch asd units !

Sorry folks - been having a nightmare few weeks!
 
 But, back on track just about so i'll get posting and cracking on!!
 
Andy, I took a few photo's of the Hull before I started it so i'll get them up for you over the next day or so.    It's an excellent hull, can't fault it at all personally.
