Lifeboat Plans
« on: March 12, 2013, 12:07:49 pm »

Hi, this is for anyone who has bought plans from the RNLI. On their order form they give a list of classes for boats they provide plans for, but do not name the boats that these plans are for. I assume that they only provide the drawings for one boat of each class, but seeing as there was so much variation within classes, especially for the older boats, I think it would be a good idea to have a list of the boats they provide for.

This is essentially so that if you have (for example) one of the Metcalf mouldings Ann Letitia Russell kits, and want a set of RNLI plans for a 41ft Watson, you won’t be surprised if the plans are for one of the last 4 boats of the class which had a different hull.

To put it another way if you wanted to build a 51ft Barnett, and bought one of the hulls that Neil used for his Mary Stanford, the plans the RNLI provide would not be appropriate as the plans they sell are for Southern Africa, the last 51 footer, which had a different rudder arrangement and different belting.
I’m not knocking their service, which is excellent, I’m just looking for a bit more information.

I’ll start the ball rolling.

51ft Barnett, ON 860, Southern Africa, Dover

32ft Surf, ON 811, Thomas Kirk Wright, Poole

70ft Clyde, ON 988, 70-002, Grace Paterson Ritchie, Kirkwall

Hi all,
Andrew, I have three boat plans plus the hovercraft.
12m Mersey, ON1163, 12-005, Lady of Hilbre, Hoylake. (assume this is a RNLI plan but got it from Models by Design).
37 ft Rother (Mk2 Oakley), ON1068, 37-40, James Cable, Aldeburgh.
42 ft Watson, ON967, Dorothy and Philip Constant, Shoreham.
Hovercraft, 470 SAR, general arrangement craft 004, which I think refers to H-004, Vera Ravine, Southend on Sea.
Yours,
Alan
