My little red one.
« on: June 06, 2007, 05:17:20 pm »

It started off as a "Gentry" kit....but apart from the chassis a lot of it was "not fit for purpose". Kept one or two bits but really made my own bodywork out of alluminium sheet to more closely resemble a 1954 MG TF. I really should not have used a "donor" car as the only bits from that now remaining are the alternator and the rear axle. And I could have got them from the local "scrappie" anyway. But one lives and learns I suppose. Started the build in 1986 and finished it in 1994 (during leave periods). The trials, tribulations and invective during this period allowed my elderly neighbours to seriously improve their command of the English vernacular.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this machine...but sadly it is time for it to have a new "carer". I do not now get the use out of it that it deserves, and I need the space for the (model) ships.

Nice loking motor, Bryan.  I particularly like the 'windscreen' on the trailer - very useful.
Have you kept the original donor engine (Escort?).
I thought about doing a kit years ago but never got round to it ::)
Due to my size (6ft 2in and 1* stone) I favoured the Royale - but the cost :o :o
I did once do up a Rickman Ranger (2 litre Pinto) but that doesn't count ;D
So it's now an almost clapped out Rover - ah well....

The trailer bed is 8' long...indicates sizes of models.
The white one is "Recorder". Cable and Wireless, built at Swans in 1954. I finished the model in 1982 and although elderly she is in pretty good nick. Totally overpowered, would probably give a Club 500 a hard time in a straight line....good for getting out of trouble!
The black one is "Hunan". China Steam Nav. John Brown, 1933.
Possibly my favourite model but alas stolen in 2001. Never to be heard of again.

A pal of mine (also on this forum) also has a "Gentry" and he is 6'4" (his wife is about 4'10") and drives it a lot more than I do mine.
