Another 'What Model' please?
« on: April 07, 2013, 07:28:36 pm »

Via email to Mayhem...

Hi Martin,

I hope this doesn't sound too strange a question but would you be able to tell me anything at all about the model boat shown in the photos attached please ?

I know that it was given to a family friend in 1902.

I apologise in advance for any misuse of the words Boat, Yacht or Ship !

Yours sincerely,

Mark N

Looks like a shortened, type of 'Smack' fishing boat, or a 'Hooker' although they normally have two forsails IRC. I thought she could be a Ketch of somesort, maybe just a amalgamation of different styles in one model-probably the boat was made from various oddments or scrap wood; was maybe not designed as any specific type, just a 'boat of the period' 1800s.

My models are not nice, clean and ship-shape. They be mucky, grubby, rusty and smelly.
