screw eyes
« on: April 08, 2013, 07:52:41 pm »

Does anyone know of a supplier for very small, brass screw eyes?
There used to be someone called Mastman who I bought from before but
can't locate him now.
I think the size was listed as 2mm (hole/eye)
Thanks.....

If you just need an eye, you can use brassed cotter pins (try 1/4"). Drill a small (1.5mm) hole, glue and insert. Then trim off at the back. Possibly more secure than screw eyes. I use this for standing rigging on working models.

Yes in OZ we get brass plated screw fastners [2 to 5 micron brass electroless plated] over steel wire.......& they corrode within 5 km of salty air .........Derek

In fact all the screw eyes I have seen in hardware stores have been brassed (brass plated steel). Even if described as brass.

The cotter pins I have are infact solid brass, and not brassed as previously stated.

Thanks Barry, I should have tried that website address myself!
For the record, the screw eyes I last bought from him are magnetic.

The link that Neil posted earlier looks good too. In fact they are
very much cheaper than Mastman and you can buy thru' Paypal whereas
Mastman operates by post and cheques.
