Short answer - before.
Longer answer - use a charger that monitors the balance though out the charge.
Having said that, most of my LiPo's never seem to need balancing, but I always check before charging.

depends on the charger.... many recent lipo chargers balance and charge at the same time, so no balancing is needed

horse 's for cause's. . my first packs I did not bother lasted 5 months my next pack well 1 year on and still going so yea I always charge at 1c and in balance mode hope that helps

Thanks guys, fortunately I managrd to save the battery that I thought I had wrecked and balancing the other three that I have got before charging seems to have given them a longer run time. Cheers, Rob
