My latest completed effort - Wavemaster
« on: May 11, 2013, 06:31:23 pm »

A few pics of  Wavemaster from Vintage Model Boats. My first wooden boat that enabled me to practice new processes and imagination, ( may have ran a bit wild with that)  I don't think it is of any scale as such, but had fun making the bits and pieces that I think look acceptable and about right given a fleeting glance.  It stayed afloat in the bath but that's about it so far,  haven't had chance to try it yet so will take it to Wicksteed for its maiden voyage. If it goes a bit bottoms up I'm sure Dave or Phil will fish it out for me and no doubt there will be plenty of help and advice on hand if it doesn't sail as it should.  Regards, Tony.

Hi Tony,

You've certainly kept yourself busy with the detailing that isn't necessarily apparent in a 'fleeting glance' - fuel fillers, cockpit grab rails, the door handle, and my favourite which reminded me of an old joke...

Patient: Doctor, Doctor, I keep thinking I'm a dog.
Doctor: Okay, if you lie down on the couch I'll examine you.
Patient: I'm not allowed on the couch!

So how much of the model is kit is the Vintage Model Boats kit, and how much is TT1; and how long has it taken, and what's it powered by; etc...

Very nice Tony, seems a shame to get it wet, I noticed the old sea dog
on the lilo just like mine on my Riva Aquarama you will be amused
how many kids drag their parents to have a look at the dog on a boat,
happy sailing.

A very nice job Tony, particularly like the finish on the woodwork and decks.
Geoff
P.S. just to put the finishing touch it should be a Red Ensign on the stern
not the Union Flag

Thank you very much to you all for your very kind comments, much appreciated and kind of helps put a spring in yer step and to forget some of the disasters along the way.
Re the kit Andy, it is a flat pack laser cut kit of bulkheads / formers, hull, deck and cabin roof skins with cabin roof handrails and a bit of wood for a mast. That,s about it really but I must say it is very accurately cut and does go together very well. I didn't particularly like the pre-printed deck skins (the lines didn't line up very well) and wasn't keen on the joints as they were in 4 parts so it gave me the chance to have a go at planking the deck and using veneer for the cabin roofs. There's nothing much at all to the cockpit and surprisingly there are no sides, base or floor provided to cover the motor, just a void to the hull, but I was aware of all this on purchase and one of the nice things about a kit like this is that you then have licence to do as you wish.  The purchased parts was the anchor, mast lamp, horns, 6x bollards, fender rubber and as Geoff pointed out - the wrong flag! :embarrassed: When I bought it the chap asked would I like the red ensign but this dummy preferred the union jack - just my ignorance O0 Everything else was hand made.  The edging atop the cockpit sides and front was formed from half round styrene. I used the lasered cut outs from the windows as router templates and cut the windows from 3mm smoked acrylic, the frames were a hand cut nightmare! 22 frames and TEN different sizes %% I took Steve's advice (from model boat bits) and fitted a Caldercraft 750 motor with one of his couplings and a 50mm X type 2 blade plastic prop - hadn't realised just how cheap these plastic propellors are so I've bought a variety for trial purposes.
I think I may have trouble with the motor getting hot, it's well boxed in but I'v made the table top removable in case it needs to breath - this bit's a learning curve for me I'm afarid but we'll see.  Here's a few pics of my very simple setup. Regards, Tony. :-))

Wonderful! Presumably taken last year looking at the tomatoes. The fuchsias are nice but must tickle a bit when you sit down. Well done and a great garden.
