Thames dredger

 %%  Last year I took the grandchildren to H.M.S Belfast for a day out, after the tour we decided to have something to eat and drink
in one of the riverside pubs.I was watching the traffic on the river when I noticed a Thames dredger at work, I was wondering if at
some time I could have a go at making such an unusual boat,has anyone got any idea's where to get plans or drawings.Many thanks

Hi Ray what kind of dredger was it?   was it a suction dredge (ship shaped ) or was it a pontoon with a hydraulic shovel on it?   Geo

 %%  I think it was the suction type as I could not see any buckets,it was moving under its own steam not like barge. {:-{ {:-{

 %% Very much but I don't think it was that big, I was some distant from the dredger so it was hard to scale it.I would like to thank all you guy's

Hi spar key. If it was like that in the picture it was a sanddredger, they go out into the north sea and suck up sand and gravel from the bottom and then bring it into the river,and then discharge it ashore,for all kinds of building work,they are very complicated on the deck side equip ment if you Google ARCO ARUN

Do what I do Sparkey ...
Fill a shed with hulls and motors etc
Start everything and finish nothing 100%
- I really must become more organised (I am getting better though)

She's in a scrapyard in Belgium now.  I was the Captain for 5 years, if you want any info let me know

It was a split dump hull.

Yes, she was a good ship, enjoyed every minute on her.  The company went into administration and due to her age, built in 1974, and she was due her 5 year survey in June it was decided to scrap here, shame as she could of gone on for another 5 years at least.  Sailed on her as 2nd Mate in the eighties as well !

Can you give the livery colours for the dredger?
it would possibly be a clearance if it was i the upper pond of the Thames
though there are still (to my knowledge) some sand deliveries to that part of the Thames.


If orange and blue could be Ham / Van Oord three triangles with points together.
Two triangles in a square could be Westminster Boskalis and associates
