RC video camera... who makes one
« on: June 12, 2013, 05:59:42 pm »

Looking for a mini digital video camera.  That bits easy, now the kicker.... I want to be able to switch the recording on and off from the transmitter via a switch.
Simple, but I can't find one anywhere

Any ideas?

Alternatively

I opened the camera I have and I can easily rework the record button with 2 wires.... touch the wires together and the camera starts, touch them again and it stops.

What I need now is a little bit of electrical jiggery pokery that gives a momentary connection (say 0.5 sec) when the switch is pushed down and again when its moved up.

Surely a simple non latching switcher with a relay for output would do the job - just follows whatever the stick (or switch, or knob) does.  One dab to operate the relay, let go to release it, camera has started - similar dab to stop it.  Just a case of remembering where you are up to.  I once got several minutes of my feet walking along Limassol prom but little of what I thought I was shooting.

Record everything, edit afterwards.

Got one of those already.  Unfortunately the way they are wired makes it a little tricky to use

I was thinking that it might be less hassle to edit afterwards.... but it would be nice to be able to stop and start recording remotely

I have a cisco flip, with a new set of batteries it will easily record a full hours video. a lot depends on how much you want to pay, a friend has a drone with one of the hero cameras, he has a remote screen to get  the 'drones eye' view, but he has invested a lot of money into the system. a cheap and simple system could be an old camera phone mounted in the model, set running recording to memory card, recording time would be dependent on the memory card capacity.

What about a micro servo lashed to the top of the camera and the arm shaped / configured to touch the shutter button?

Maybe a little hand with an action man glove on the end?  Sorry.

Really wouldn't bother.

I would just get a little 808 version 16 cam, take the case apart, unplug the original lipo battery, which only gives you about 40 minutes recording time on a good day, wire in a regulated 5 volt feed (receiver buss will be good, but make sure it IS 5volt). Then fit a large capacity card (roughly 3GB per hour of footage) which are cheap these days, and just chop out the chaff at the editing stage.

Have a look at the Flycamone which is a lightweight, controllable camera for model flight.
Could fit the bill at a reasonable price? :-))
