Tutorial on Modelling Ships' Boats
« on: July 14, 2013, 04:47:49 pm »

Does anyone know of a tutorial on modelling ships' boats?  The US mag "Ships in Scale" had a multi-part series recently but i missed seeing it.  I want to construct 25 foot Motor Cutters and a 32 Foot Cutter for a model i am building in 1/96th.  At such a small scale I am wondering how to make them look realistic.  On that note, many years ago (1964 or so) "Model Boats" published a series of Norman Ough drawings, one of which was the 25 foot Motor Cutter.  would anyone have a copy they could scan for me?  I would be most grateful.

Cheers

There is a section in Brian King's Book 'Advanced Ship Modelling' dedicated to modelling ships' boats (Royal Navy late 19thC- WW2) in 1/192 and I think 1/96. Alternatively RN ships' boats at 1/96 are available from Deansmarine and John Haynes Models.

Hope this helps!

Hi James;

  Thanks very much for the information. I will pursue both suggestions, although I would prefer to try to build the boats from scratch.

Cheers
