FISHERMAN DIO: 'LOOKING OUT TO SEA'.
« on: August 13, 2013, 01:42:46 pm »

I have been working in my shed doing bits and bobs on the RC boat when my gaze fell upon my forlorn skipper from the trawler that got dropped and then stripped for parts. I mused over what to do with him and came up with a small dio of him standing on an old worn jetty staring out to sea, lost in his thoughts.

I found an old base and after sanding and masking used ocean blue and a light metallic blue to create the water colour the rippled effect was created using clear sealant and the back of a teaspoon. The posts and jetty are an old firework stick and wooden lollipop sticks, all sanded. Once done the I painted and weathered the boards etc and added some growth just around the bases of the legs. The lobster pot was made from plastic and copper wire with a bit of old net. The bollard is a small brass finial off something or other...I even added seagull poo on the bollard  :D

 :-)  He'll be all right, he's used to the salty air, besides he can always amuse himself by mending the broken lobster pot.

LOL, you could be right there Ray, he is looking fed up, maybe is waiting for high tide and the boats to come back in so he can borrow a few pennies for a drink.

Looking at the pictures I noticed I had forgot to add some bolts that attach the planking to the frame, so add them in a rust colour, also added some more green around the legs and added a touch more sealant around the legs as they were a bit rickety.

No, may not be going as I maybe away. Have been told to show my models but so far, my sunken wreck dio's have only been aired at my local boat clubs gala day. Not sure that they are good enough.

Cheers Ray, guess modellers are all the same really, trying to get things right and think it looks naff lol.

Two things: I couldn't afford a pint in your neck of the woods and two, I would end up smacking the yuppies  O0

Cheers Ned, glad you like. We parked the car by the meridian line, it is through a village on our way to my caravan at Easington. Maybe Hull is a place to stop for a tipple or two.

That is so sad, but true, you do get it up here, they just ignore you or look at you as if you're from another planet. {:-{

I have another KMBC boat day on the 8th September, Navy Day, so the wrecks will be going there. Still not sure about other venues.

Ned

Spent many a day in Grimsby when I worked for a pest control officer, mainly at Grimsby hospital. But loved going and having fish and chips and just watching the sea.
