No hydrostatic features displayed
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:48:27 am »

Our problem is that the hydrostatics are not calculating.. Apparantly there is a hole in the boat, but we dont know where it is, or how to fix it  <:(  Any help? :-))

haha, okay. Well the problem is that we dont get the right hydrostatics no matter how hard we try. We know that the draught of the boat is 5,9 cm before the load, but we need to know what the draught is with "load" We talked to the person that gave us the drawings and he said we didn't get the right hydrostatics because it is a hole in the boat. But we cant se this hole, and we do not know how to fix it :/ Another question is that when we have placed the intersections, we dont know how to copy he intersections into paper... This person, I was talking about, said that we had to use Autocad to copy and placee the intersections. Is this right?
Please help! Thanks! :}

Hakon..............we are modellers, not scientists, and I for one haven't a clue as to what you are on about.

if it is to get your boat to the correct waterline or whether your boat is leaking.

please simplify your request so that normal modellers can understand......apart from the word Hydrostatics meaning something to do with water, after that I have'n't got a clue.

so please, use terms what we as modellers, and not scientists can understand, then you may get some help. %% %%

if I want to find a leak, I usually put my boat in a bath tub without any electrics inside, and put weights ( old batteries) on the decks........watch the boat and see where the water is penetrating from.

From his first post on Mayhem he is building an Xbow.

Sounds like he is trying to get a waterline but has a hull leak.

Hakon,
If it is just a hull with nothing in it, try putting some water inside and watching for the point that the water escapes.

Me thinks he is trying to get the hydrostatic values using a program like 'freeship' or delfship'
can't get it to work because there is a hole in the envelope, and he can't find it.
You need to run for water tightness and it should list the point numbers (co-ordinate) for each "hole"
cheers

Sorry, but the thing is that we are having a x-bow model on Delftship. We need to calculate the correct hydrostatics, but to get the correct numbers we have to fill a hole in the back of the boat. We cannot find this hole, and if we find it we dont know how to fill it.

Another question. After we get the right hydrostatics, we have to print the intersections into paper so we can start cut and build the boat. Someone says we have to use AutoCAD to print the intersections out. Is there a easier method to print the intersections in to paper in Delftship?

Hi,

On Delftship, use the help function for a good explanation of the leak points issue.

Turn on the control net (button in hull display panel) then turn on leak points (button in hull display panel), this will show you where the leak points on your model are. You should then be able to see how to fix them.

For printing the intersections, get a view of the hull only, bodyplan view, turn on the stations button, then print as many copies of the bodyplan with stations as you need stations to build with.

Then cut out a different station from each copy and there you are - a set of stations!

Good luck

Is this the first time a ship has actually sunk before it got to the drawing board?  Ah, the wonders of modern science.

Maybe it is suitable as a submersible %) %) %)
