Second large scale jetty dio-THE SEA CAPTAIN.
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:24:16 pm »

This is another jetty dio, same scale as the larger fisherman dio-this is the second of a set of three I am making. This time I had a real issue with the sealant for the water, may have been too warm or humid but could I get it ripple and peak in places...no...very frustrating. I got it as best as I could and then used a sponge to add some white, even that wasn't playing ball...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. In the end I thought stuff it and used various sponges and washes, from spray cans, enamels and even oil colours to achieve the water.

I also tried out using cotton wool to pad out the growth around the piles/legs. This was glued on and then sponged with matt paint, once dry it had some silicone added in places and then a vivid green added to that. Worked well I thought. There are also real tiny copper nails that run down the length of the boarding. The figure comes pre-painted but I have added some highlights and washes. Just to add the ragged looking post cuts are intentional, it was to give an old and worn look.

So, here he is...the sea captain.

Only thing I am waiting for is a white terrier dog to accompany him.

Si...glad this one is over, took ages and ages...and well, you get the picture.

Hi Frank.

Have used the water effects as well as Epoxy on various Warhammer dios for my lad but, as you point out, when your on a budget, silicone is a cheap alternative...just wasn't playing ball this time...never mind, it hasn't come out too bad.

Thanks for the link, will have a look at what else they do.

It looks great Eddie, I wish I could do it half as good. It has a great atmosphere & is very live like, well done. Mick B.

Many thanks Mick, makes me feel like I can do models when I get a nice comment like yours, appreciate it very much. My disability means that mistakes or ****-ups do occur so trying to sort them while feeling frustrated, even after I left the thing for a while, can be a pain, in more ways than one.
