  • Model Boat Mayhem is Great!
  • Location: Orkney Scotland

Hi there folks firstly il introduce my myself. My name is Gary 30yrs old and I live in Orkney in the north of Scotland.I am a collector of 1/50 scale modern trucks and due to the increasing prices in die cast models I am turning more so for my love of model boats. My first choice in boats are modern trawlers, support vessels, tankers/freight boats  etc etc.(most things cruising the north sea). I currently own a model of a Norwegian pelagic trawler and in the depths of making a hullmatic36 creel boat (which I'm desperate for photos of  :D )

Back to the topic in hand I have always had a thing for the vospers and recently bought a tamiya 1/72 motorised kit. You have the choice of having it as a static model with 3 screws or a motorised version with a single screw running on an RE280 motor. I'm looking in to turning it in to a complete RC boat and wanting to stick 3 motors in it. Due to the size of the boat I have been looking at these  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190847579068?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Can anybody advice me if these would be a suitable rpm power for the boat. It's due to size and weight of these ones  make it ideal for the vosper but I'm wanting it to have a realistic speed not super fast that it's uncontrolable. Also if I was to run these at 6v can some one recommended a small light weight  battery pack. This boat is designed to take 4 um2 (c sized) battery's so I'm wanting to keep weight to a minimum to give space to receiver servos and esc etc

I should state the approx size of kit is 400mm x100mm

Also can someone advice me on a waterproof glue for this model. I have a bottle and tubes of humbrol liquid poly. Is this stuff suitable for a plastic kit going in the water  or will it fall to pieces

And yes liquid poly is fine but I always lay a thin strip of plastic over any underwater joint as seal with liquid poly.

Cheers for the link :-)) I am certainly interested in looking in to that.  would you recommend having it as a single screw then. I have not much knowledge on RC set ups at all but wanting to get it right and not butcher the thing

With the weight saving yes.
It would take a lot of planning to get her sailing on 3 shafts for a first model.
2 shafts wouldnt be too terrible.
