wyeforce rope winch?
« on: October 03, 2013, 03:19:13 pm »

Hi guys has anyone got a photo of the rope winch that is fixed
behind the tow hook (on the real boat) on the various model
picks. Ive seen there is not one fitted and the photos I have
seen of the real boat do not depict it very well. I would imagine
that there has to be 1 to haul in the tow rope, etc.

Hi John, these may be of some use to you, can't vouch for how correct they might be as this is how they are on the model I picked up several years ago. From the bits that came with it was originally a kit bought from Model Slipway in 1996, but can't find anything about rope winch. That's not overweight construction, the deck house is standing on a bread board for the phtograps. Hope this is some help. :} :-))

Thanks a lot Mic,Sid.
I have seen quite a few Wyeforce/ Southampton models
none I have seen had fitted a winch.
It looks like the winch was not included in the kit,
and modelers used their own ideas in what to fit.
looking at the real boat, the winch looks tall and narrow
that is what I think I will build.
I will post a picture of the finished winch, when I build it that is O0

Once again thanks for taking time to help a fellow meyhemer.

Two years ago I built a Wyeforce specifically for tug towing, as you can see from the attached images the hull is devoid of fittings so nothing gets knocked off in service. The towing bitt has been has been replaced by a homebuilt working towing winch operated from channel 4 operating an Action two channel switcher. The winch motor is a MFA 941D621 unit with a 62:1 epicyclic gearbox which is fitted in a tube at the back of the winch, see second image. Also provided by the right hand side is a short pole with two hi-bri LEDs showing the direction of operation in case of operator confusion! To provide a braking force when towing the drive motor, when not operating, is kept in a short circuit condition. The front bitt, winch base and gog iron are reinforced under the deck.
I thought it might be of interest

Hi Tim, thanks for that. I have built /refurbished this Wyeforce using
M5 shafts and 2 x 900 motors direct drive to 60mm 4 blade propellers.
powered by a 12v lead acid. I think it should pull using the reinforced
towing hook.

Hi guys, although I have built a type of fictional winch for my
Wyeforce I would still be very interested in a picture of the real thing
off the real Wyeforce boat if anyone has one.

thanks
