help : Maltese LUZZU what wood to use

Hi all need a bit of help here on the maltese luzzu.
ive got the plan and was thinking of doing it in ply wood , do you think this is ok , and would it be ok for the ribs to be made out of the same wood or should i use somthing softer.

From memory, I think the builder in the item used pine from old furniture which he cut to size with woodworking machinery (not everyone has access to these facilities). I no longer have the magazine item to work from, but I would be inclined to consider jellutong which is harder than balsawood and easy to carve. W Hobby of London stock certain sizes.

            Hi VINCE ,
                              Here is my Luzzu, plank on frame 5mm ply  and cedar 10mm x 3mm planking, pva glue ,
                                         deck Ikea blind slats......hope this helps         Larry..
