video reduction
« on: October 08, 2013, 10:43:26 am »

Hi everyone
can someone please enlighten me on how to reduce a video from my camera of 31GB as I would like to show off  my schooner now that at last I have put it in the lake and watched it sail in very light winds, everything works, but I have problems with the jibs, the knot at the corner of the jibsail gets caught in the leading edge of the fore sail when tacking, it may have worked better with more wind, can anyone give me some help with this sail problem, the jibs work off a arm servo
Regards Geoff

Take it you have a Windows PC ?
You can use "Windows Movie Maker" to edit and / or  reduce video file sizes.
Movie Maker usually comes free, look in the Windows program list from the start menu.
Open it and import / add the video to Movie Maker.
Edit the video if required or if not just save it and select what you want to save it as and what for, you can also select max file size too.
The actual options available and how Windows Movie Maker works and looks will depend on what version of Windows you have, eg Windows XP, Windows 7 or 8 etc
Hope this helps.

What format  is your Cam exporting at that size suggests either HD  or DV   probably HD as DV wold be nearly 3 hours long for that size . If it is Hd you need to convert  it to a  smaller format plenty free convertors all superior to windows Your Cam should also  give you a choice of formats to export in and for the record you can put HD on a std non bluray dvd at full quality albeit only about 20 mins worth
Please confirm  what you have and  we can work from there as in what to get  and how to Just noticed where you are  just up the road from me  so no probs if you  get stuck

You don't say why you want to reduce the video.  It cannot be shown on this site as it's not allowed by the Host.

If you put it on YouTube then it's best to have it at it's best resolution for transmission purposes. You can still edit it to your satisfaction but the quality will remain high.

Hope this helps

Hi  I am still wrestling with reducing the video of my 52" Schooner,so for now you will have a still of her, she has one arm servo for jibs, one winch servo for mid and main sails, one servo working two micro switches for reverse and forward movement, one servo for rudder control, she works well apart from the knots on the jibs lines catching on the fore sail, hopefully the video will be working as well soon

well guy's I have managed to reduce this so that you can see my schooner, shame that we managed to get on the lake when there was no wind, but everything worked and the hull was dry inside when she came out of the water, I apologise for the music , but I was enjoying the editing and its amazing what you can do with movie maker when you get going
