Mtroniks Viper won't run astern?
« on: November 08, 2013, 03:14:36 pm »

I have a small problem with a 15A Mtroniks ESC and before phoning them I
thought that there could be a simple explanation for the fault.
I have just tested it on the bench and after setup it will run ahead but not astern.

The red light comes on in the full astern position and pressing the setup button makes the motor run astern
whilst the button is pressed.

I have checked it on a Radiolink and a Spektrum and the problem is there on both.
I have run it on 12V and 7.2V and same same.

Substituting the ESC for a 25A viper does not show the fault.

I have tried a 919D motor gearbox and also a 385.

Is there a simple explanation or do I 'pick up the piggin phone' ?

I think these have a setting for only 1 way running.
Unbuiltnautilus knows how to reset these.
I think it was turn on ESC with set button pressed, release and press 3 or 4 times.
Worth a try!!

Was it 3 or 4 presses after the initial press?

Chaps

The depth of knowledge amongst the members of MBM never fails to amaze me !

If only it could all be distilled down, and published in book form !

That's right Richard,
I seemed to remember reading about programming these esc's and I think it was Unbuilt Nautilus that
supplied the answer at the time. I thought it was worth a try on the Forum before phoning.

Certainly has sorted one of mine out too. Been using it on my tamiya rc car for ages but now it's going back in my boats.

Not 100% sure but think:
1 press for ahead only
2 press for ahead, brake, astern
3 press anead / astern.
Hope UBN sees this thread and can confirm.

I've forgotten!!!

No, actually....the latest versions dont have the reprogramming function, but the older ones did. what most people do wrong when setting up is to hold the button down BEFORE turning on the tx, thereby accessing the programming of the speed control. If this happens, pressing the button once disables reverse. Somewhere on this great forum is a detailed description of what to do, but the basics are; you are looking for flashing red lights, one press/one flash= no reverse, then two presses/two flashes=delayed reverse, three presses/three flashes=delayed reverse, four presses/four flashes=instant reverse.

Roughly something like that, I have forgotten just a bit %)
