Try the Model Railway websites. They all do a lot of odd scale stuff. BY.

Any figure between 38mm and 45mm falls into "average" heights at 1/40th scale. 1 /43rd scale figures would work quite well but the only one I've been able to find so far are racing car pit crews in resin at about 4 quid each.

Try evilbay....http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/o-scale-figures.

I got some 1:24 (G gauge) for my ASRL from China.  Cost about £8 for 20 pieces which after a bit of 'remodelling' and painting 3 figures for me and 2 for me dad's crash tender, they look a treat, and just using the 5 work out at £1.60 each.

They took about a fortnight to arrive but well worth the wait.

The Chinese copies (for that's what they are) aren't a patch on the sheer quality of the genuine articles. I used the "cheapies" inside the Northumbrian" (ferry) waiting room, but the real ones on the open decks. The results are evident in the pics of the ferry I think they are on the Masterclass section.
