The designer of the original ship is known to make very nice fishing boats. There are so many of him to be found all over italy. His wooden constructions are nice too!

Do I have woodworking experience? Well, not really! Learning by doing is what I do or trial and error. I read a lot of ship building books, visited ship yards, photographed nearly all fishing vessels of the adriatic and some of the med coast. Watch videos of building ships and models, read many posts on this and other forums. My skills where not always so good. Since 4 years I have my own building space in the house where I have own an appartement. This gave my modelling skills a big boost. No more building in the kitchen, dining room etc .... I also could buy all neccessary maschines I need. Without them I can't build anything this fast and accurate.
The Corneia Marie was my first big build of a model ship. I always say to my wife that I should build another one to get one without the building mistakes I made. I have another 2-3 models waiting to be made. They will be in a larger size than the Cornelia Marie 1/32 and the N. Loredana 1/24 .... the larger the better! No fiddly little pieces to be made. Everything can be sturdy and of reasonable size that can be held in hand and not by tweezers .... hope you like my builds and will read my posts as before.

Obviously the books, forums, and the like were all worthwhile as you have developed some fine woodworking skills.
The tools are only as good as the crafter/operator.
It is apparent, that you have successfully developed your boat building skills, well done.
I take note, how joints are constructed, the means of fabrication, order of assembly and so on, which tells me a lot about the builder.
Yes I agree, that building to a "large scale" does simplify some items and also allows for more detail to be included, as well as adding realism.

Thanks a lot !!!! Hopefully my next model with be better ...

Not happy with yesterdays work I redid the wings on the mast. Made slits into the cover and now the wings a firmly attached to the mast.

At least you can use the mooring lines on the ship.

Reinforments of the cover on the roof.

Could the wings have been made in one piece, Like a boomerang, then secured to the "flat" of the platform???

Cantilevered parts always need better support due to the forces of gravity, the longer the cantilever, the better (stronger) the joint has to be.

Maybe a tiny wood fillet underneath to support the piece, much like when fillet welding on the underside.

But that joint as you have it is now more secure. O0 O0 O0

I didn't want to do it in one piece as the original has two pieces. But you're right. It woud have been more sturdy.

Began to build the mast with the lamps and antenna.

I wanted to do it with a 2mm copper pipe. Bending it with my bending tool did not work as I wanted ....

So I did everything with ABS profiles. Here I just put everything together without aligning it.

Aligning everything with the help of 2 wood profiles and a piece of cardboard...glueing is done with aceton which is very fast bonding ABS together.

I did a mastholder out of a 9mm ply ....

The two last antenna holders are cut to length with the help of a piece of scrap wood profile ....

Looking good and ready for adding the triangular reinforcements.

Finished for today .... a lot more details have to be added later.

The lamp mast is leaning forward .... I will correct that when I glue it to the radar mast .... !

I saw that but knowing how lenses can make even the most accurate model look 'Sqiffy' didn't think anything of it.

Excellent work as per usual  :-)) Did you know that the body produces Acetone during Ketosis and too much can cause acidic blood.

Very interesting fact about the body-produced acetone!  :-))

Off we go ... last working day at my shipyard.

Just checked with some pics if I had done everything right.
Thats the situation today.... ---> Massimo Tanfa

And the next picture shows the situation with the N. Loredana .... not the same at all. Silly me! I have two folder with my pics. One with the Loredana pics (ony a few) and the other with the pics of the Massimo Tanfa. Never realized I had a pic of the Loredana mast. I always thought the mast will be the same but it isn't. This is the only picture of the mast from the N. Loredana I have to work with.

The work done yesterday was cut away with my bandsaw in a few seconds ....

New details added ... more to be made.

The result of todays work.

You will be glad you have noticed the difference. Imagine the frustration if you had noticed only after everything was painted up and wired in... <:(

Good to see you have salvaged most of the mast work. :-)

Regards,

Ray.

It is a shame you could not have taken the mast off so as to use it on another ship and built a new one. I know it is extra work, but you would have had the beginnings of another model!

All the same, your masts look great and will only get better as you add the diddy bits.

Thanks a lot!  :-))
My wife told me the same .... keep it and build another one. But my next models will be in 1/16 and bigger scales!
I will start with drawings of my next model in the next days and finishing the N. Loredana asap. Just to get my mind on other things as the N. Loredana. I have the drawing for the FV Princess Loane which I will build but not with the shape of a steel hull but a wooden hull. A nice challange for me changing the drawings.

Wow, that sheer is going to eat up some plywood! I love the sleek look, again the mix between cruiser and work boat.

I had a quick Google and see that someone else is building a model of her possibly in metal.

Today I added some details and color on the roof of the wheelhouse.

Some more color for the deck too ...

And the exhaust stack.

Wheelhouse too!

And the end-of-day pictures...

Isn't she a beauty?!

A beauty she is indeed Danielle. There is something very swordfish like about her prow, and like all your vessels built or planned she is a sleek'n:O)

Thank you very much  :-)) :-)) :-))

I have a good week .... everything is going well and fast!
On deck its time to make some more railings ..... I always do them on the ship and never on my workbench. Less errors can be made with my method.

I added some details on the foredeck. The anchorwinch got some heavy modifications. I should have built it new but I am fed uo a little bit with the N. Loredana....

I know what you mean, the little bits take an age to do but you dont see much for the effort, heads up, remember the CM towards the end?  but then think of the great feeling as it took to the water for the first time.

Thanks a lot for the encouragment my friends ..... I never thought it would make such a difference if you build a model for me or for a "client". I think I wont do it again! Never mind you're right ... not much left to do and with some effort I should finish her in good time ....  %)

I finished the anchor winch ...

More railings added .... phuu .... there is so many left to do .... {:-{

Painting the bow section white before finishing the railing.

Time to get the position light mast in place. On wire is without isolation or it wouldn't have fitted into the tube.

And todays work from above ...

And behind ...

I also received 6/8/10mm diameter acrylic rods. With them I can make my own position lights in the right scale.

I had to start making my own position lights. They are way to expensive to buy. Around 5CHF pair .... and you never find the exactly right ones ....
