Glasgow Richmond Model Boat Club - 30th Anniversary YearHello everyone, my name is Sandy Mercer and since the AGM in late November, I have been the secretary of the Glasgow Richmond Model Boat Club.
As you may know, the GRMBC is one of the largest and enthusiastic model boat clubs in Scotland, based at Richmond Park near Shawfield Stadium, right beside the River Clyde and less than a mile from the M74 motorway Junction 1A exit.
2014 is the 30th anniversary of the club and the committee is working away at trying to make it an exciting and memorable year for both members and visitors.
Our website address is here:-
http://www.glasgowrichmondmbc.co.uk/and a list of our forthcoming club events and their dates is here:-
http://www.glasgowrichmondmbc.co.uk/Events.htmlAs you can see, in July, the GRMBC is very pleased to be hosting the National Warship Weekend on behalf of the Scottish Model Warship Association for the third year in a row. Any warship enthusiasts are very welcome to come along for both or either of the two days. There is plenty of opportunity to sail, show, eat, drink and chat 'things warship' over the weekend. In 2013 we were delighted to see visitors from Belgium who brought a marvellous display of 100th scale WW2 warships, mostly based on their passion for the D-Day landings period.
Also, we are planning the Glasgow Richmond Tug Towing Competition in early June. There seem to be an awful lot of tugs on the stocks, or more accurately work tables, in the clubhouse at the moment and the club has plans for a large delegation to attend the Ellesmere Port show in early March with the aim of polishing up our skills prior to our event. More details will follow from our event co-ordinator as the date draws closer.
As well as these main events and to help celebrate our 30th anniversary, GRMBC will be holding club event sailing days on Sundays throughout the year and already many members have put their names down for taking part in:- Club 500 racing, Wee Nip racing, fast electric racing , scale and semi-scale racing, warship manoeuvres, tug towing and steering and docking. We would be delighted to see anyone come along see us in action. We can guarantee some excitement in the
demolition derby, sorry, Club 500 racing and I am told the competitive hackles rise during the Wee Nip racing. It should all be fun.
Just to remind you the club is open:-
Wednesdays from 11:00 to 16:00
Sundays from 11:00 to 16:00
Thursday evenings from 18:00 till 22:00
If anyone is in the area or visiting Scotland it would be great to see you. Just pop along. You don't have to be the Prime Minister either.
All the best
Sandy
