Grand Banks Pleasure Cruisers
« on: June 25, 2007, 02:35:59 am »

Hi all,
I am gathering material on the Grand Banks Cruisers, so I can build a model of one, specifically, the Heritage CL series. :) I will be using the free plan that came with Marine Modelling magazine of April 2004, enlarged to give a hull length of about 76cm. I have got quite a lot of info on the full size boats from the internet, but was wondering if anyone had built a model, and had any photos of it, and/or tips on construction relevant to this particular boat. The basic hull and cabin shouldn't be too difficult to build, but there is quite a lot of deck and cabin detail that needs to be incorporated and other builders' suggestions would be very welcome. There aren't any of these boats, either full size or model, where I live - on the far north coast of NSW Australia, so any info would be appreciated.
Peter.

Hi Peter,
I'm in Perth W.A. & have also built  one from those plans.   My boat is about 1000 mm long.  I have taken photos of mine at regular intervals along the build & put them on CD, so if you want a copy, I can burn a CD for you.

Is it to my plans, if so would love to have a few photos of your model,

Hi Jim,
It is indeed your plans I will be using, but don't hold your breath for photos of the finished article. We are going to the UK and will be away for about 16 weeks from the middle of February, so a start won't be made until at least the middle of the year. However, I will be more than happy to send you some photos when construction commences, as long as you promise not to be too critical of my work  :) I have some photos of a great model built by Corrado Ballardin from Perth, Western Australia, who replied to my original post, and these should inspire me to do as good a job as I am capable of. I have also obtained some good information from the manufacturer's web site which will be of considerable assistance.
Thank you for your interest,
Peter.
