Hen Long RX 18 upgrade
« on: February 07, 2014, 09:24:28 pm »

Hi all, has anyone tried fitting this RX18 upgrade, My mate has just passed me a right mess to sort out, but I cannot seem to find what I need on the net. I have followed a wiring diagram I found on line to the letter but it don't want to work. one thing I have noticed, the Turret has only 1 8 pin socket, but the RX18 module has an 8 pin, a 5 pin and a 3 pin socket that need to be connected to the turret. here's a couple of photos to illustrate. I would be most grateful for any advice...

I'll have a go with you but i don't recognise the tank, is it a heng long 1/16. One thing i notice is there's no receiver board, it wont work without one. have a look at the picture, receiver board is on the right of the rx-18, notice the jump lead ( yellow, green blue ) on the bottom left of the rx-18. the eight pin socket is at the bottom and theeight pin and five pin you mention i don't use, i think thats for the infra red setup

regards Jack.

Hi there, thanks for the reply, The receiver is hanging over the right hand side of the picture, where the motors are. I have made some progress and got the motors going, the start up sound works, the engine noise works and the machine gun on the front of the hull lights up and fires, but the turret won't turn or the gun elevate. There is a little switch under a hatch in the turret, the other hatch has pellets inside. The gunfire sound works but that is all. I am not sure what the TX controlls do, I have worked out the starter button and the forward/reverse and left and right, bit the other stick does nothing. The tank is a 1/16 king tiger....

The stick on the left works as follows, push left and turret turns left, push right and turret turns right, push up and bb gun fires, pull back and gun elevates, the gun is on a cam so pulling back the gun goes up and down. The little switch in the turret hatch turns the bb gun on and off. Another thing i can't se on the upper hull is the small piece of circuit board that has 6 wires soldered onto it, 3 from the eight pin plug that are joining 3 that go up into the turret you can see it on the picture

Hmm, that does apear to be missing, I will have to ask my mate if he has it somewhere. Problem is he has had others messing with it, one of them managed to blow something in the first unit. I didn't really want to look at it as I do not like tackling something that others have started. Many thanks for your help.

No problem, the 3 wires off that little board that go into the turret are, one of them is a common that goes to the bb gun and elevation motor and the other 2 are 1 live for the bb gun motor and 1live for the elevation motor. be careful because colour coding means nothing when they asemble them, the red could be earth and the black live.

A common problem with the Hen Long transmitters can disable either turret turn, elevation or fire functions. The stick that controls them uses copper wiper blades across a piece of printed board. These copper blades sometimes lift off the tracking, meaning no contact to operate the functions. If it still doesn't work, have a look in the Tx.

Hi.
For info thats not a Hen Long tank its a Matorro.
The wiring is not the same as Hen Long hence the problem.
