Austins and other old cars...............
« on: February 07, 2014, 03:05:35 pm »

I have a 1955 Austin A30 as a daily driver and several other cars under restoration or waiting in the wings.

A few photy's :-)
My A30

This A35 is now nearly back on the road.

Wolseley Hornet under serious restoration.

Thames 300E van patiently waiting in the wings, she needs a total restoration job but she is two owners from new, mother and daughter, I bought her direct from the farm, a true barn find.

Pretty early Hornet too, I think.  Exterior door hinges?

My first car was a Austin A30 in the early sixties registration DHF 309.  I wish I had kept hold of her.

Actually, now that I come to think about it your'e Patrol Boat design is about contemporary with the A30.

Plenty out there Joe, a very useable a30 or A35 can cost as little £1500, exempt from road tax, club insurance £50 odd, MOT exempt and plentiful spares available and cheap through the club. :-)

Is that so, a 1950's design, well I'm blowed :-))

I detect street rod material there...especially that 300E van.

Lovely to see these 'golden oldies' and that someone is lovingly restoring them. Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

has the 300e still got the small rear windows ? i can remember buying a 300e plus a 100e for just a couple of hundred pounds , the 100e had a knackered engine but as it was on the road , we swapped the engine from the van overnight so we had something other than my works mk5 escort van to drive around !

These little cars evoke so many memories, the conversations they have started for me are endless.

My uncle bought it second hand when he came home from New Zealand.  A few years later he emigrated to Australia and sold me the car for twenty five pounds which to me being an apprentice at the time was a fortune.

That DVLA database is fun, I just checked on an old TR4 that I used to own in 1975 ,it's still around somewhere although the colour has changed, hopefully someone is looking after her well .  :-))
