hi, iv bought a mobile marine lady jan........its a completed model......its running a t12 motor.......electronize fr15hvr esc......and a futaba steering servo all good so far...i bought a planet 2.4g 5 channel radio for it......i put the radio in, the esc worked fine, the steering servo threw a wobbler when you turn the transmitter on.......the steering servo stopped working........i replaced the servo with a cheapy from the local model shop.that did the same..so i changed the receiver and tranny to an analog set and the steering servo still playing up doing the same.swapped the esc for a new mtronics esc still the same...I've swapped the wiring extension to the steering servo in case that had shorted even took the servo out the boat and connected it straight to the receiver..the main 12v battery is charged up.........................I've had a fair amount to do with rc cars mainly fg 5th scale and nitro.....this has got me completely lost...PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi grace, you say the rudder servo threw a wobbly when you switched
on the transmitter. You ARE switching on the transmitter first I hope,
before switching on the power to the boat.
rule of thumb tx on first & off last.
Also try re binding your tx/rx set up.

1. Does the motor run OK on it's own?
2. Is it a new battery?
3. Have you tried swapping the channels?

NB:  Welcome to the Mayhem!

hi, i switch the transmitter on first then the boat.....i turned the trans off after alot of messing to see what it would do..

i havent tried putting power straight to the motor, just as it came with the esc ..its been a working model built by a respected builder thats now poorly........

the battery is the one that came with the boat and its at 12 sealed lead acid.....its at 12.8v

iv swapped the trans & receaver..servo...esc..extension cable for the servo..and battery supply...

i havent a clue........

all sorted it was the brand new servo that was dodgy.....i changed it for an expensive one out of my nitro truck and alls well..........i bought a pusher tug to play with whilst i got lady jan sorted.11.45pm i thought id drop the pusher tug in the water and have a play with it, (it has lights  )as soon as i gave it some power it blew the main 10 amp fuse and left it dead in the water, eventualy i retreaved the pusher tug and headed for the engine room (i live on a 62ft tug)and sorted lady jans servo issues now 2am  :..............

problem number 2............my pusher tug has a pair of geared motor's running one esc..my plan is to run each motor independantly via a pair of esc's.....how do i test and see if one of the motors is drawing to much power?? i have a dc clamp meter that test amps?

Glad you got that sorted.... doggy servo!!

A 'clamp' ammeter should work but it might not like the high frequencies some of these modern ESC put out but if you have one, it's obviously worth a try.

If you can easily disconnect one motor, and test the boat in the sink / bath to see the current draw, start off with a 5 Amp fuse.

Nevermind all that Grace, come on, we want to see the "62ft tug" you live on!!!!
