Recent BBC Programme on Miniatures
« on: February 28, 2014, 07:43:20 pm »

Did anyone else watch the BBC4 programme, "Brushing up on...Miniature Britain" last night. It covered model villages, doll house furniture, model railways, soldiers = and a chap building a model boat in his flat. The model was so big it practically filled the place and he'd 'adapted' his furniture to fit it in. The model looked to be about 15feet long. When asked how his visitors coped the chap said "I don't have visitors" Such a pity Danny Baker seemed to enjoy taking the mick, and it was nice to see Bob Symes again.

I saw this as well.

My reaction was the same as yours.  Talk about running it for laughs.  It was a disgrace.  I canceled the series link.    Shame

Would this be the late Bill Wilkinson by any chance, with his example of the J.P. Morgan's Corsair?

Danny Baker isn't my favourite comedian but I did find it amusing.  They do say you have to be able to laugh at yourself, lol.
Thank heavens for the interweb thingy!  In the 50s,60s and 70s when those TV clips were made these guys wouldn't have anyone to talk to.
All in all, taking the micky but quite enjoyable.

Oh come on guys!
I think your'e taking this far too seriously.
By its very nature model making is a pretty solitary thing to do....and most of us egaged in it are a bit "off-centre" from the mainstream. Having a bit of fondly meant fun being poked at us is all par for the course.
One thing the programme did do was to illustrate the broad range of the hobby/obsession.
How could you not raise a chuckle about the guy building Paddington station, or the team who run to a real rail timetable after setting their clocks to run at 3 times normal speed? Or not feel a twinge of pity for a guy who lifted the wrong part of a model building...only to watch it fall apart?
The hobby needs humour.....not a band of rivet counters. Lighten up. BY.
